Board of Trustees

Prabhjot Singh, Chair

Prabhjot served as the Coalition’s acting Executive Director till 2005.  A long time activist, he has championed causes as broad as employment discrimination to use of secret evidence by the federal government.  He devoted his full time energy in the months following September 11, 2001 to mobilizing the Sikh community and developing the Sikh Coalition’s national infrastructure.  Prabhjot has provided leadership in organizing the Sikh community since the September 11th tragedy and is actively involved in various facets of the community.  He is regularly invited to speak at universities and events about activism, tolerance, and the Sikh faith.  Prabhjot’s professional background is in Sales & Marketing in the technology and finance sectors.  He is currently Vice President of Marketing at the Wily Technology Division of CA (CA).  One of Wily’s first 20 employees, he was instrumental in growing Wily into a thriving business, leading to acquisition of the company by CA for $375 million in 2006.

 

Ajeet Kaur, Secretary

Ajeet Kaur is currently pursuing her MBA at Georgetown University.  Prior to business school Ajeet worked in the Sales Strategy & Process at Starwood Hotels & Resorts and as Director of Communications at Cross-Cultural Solution, a not-for-profit organization focused on sustainable development in communities in need around the globe. Ajeet also spent the year following Sept. 11, 2001 volunteering full time to help establish and develop the Coalition.  Previously, Ajeet was Director of Marketing at TheBEAST (a financial technology company that provides software to traders) and worked in Corporate Branding and Public Relations for Edelman Public Relations Worldwide.  She earned a B.A. in Public Relations and International Business and Negotiations from American University in Washington, DC.

 

Narinder Singh, Treasurer

Narinder is a founder of Appirio Inc., which delivers services and products to help medium to large enterprises accelerate on-demand adoption. Prior to working for Appirio, Narinder worked at SAP in the Office of the CEO as a part of the Corporate Strategy Group. Working with the management board and other executives, he led initiatives on sales, maintenance and competitive strategies, as well as potential business and technology disruptions, including software on demand.  Prior to SAP, Narinder managed development and sales and marketing activity as vice president and general manager of webMethods (WEBM) workflow business unit. He led the internal development of the company's business process management (BPM) capabilities, and the integration of a workflow acquisition to launch the business unit.  Narinder joined webMethods in 1998 as one of its first forty employees.

Narinder is actively involved in the Sikh community and has been involved in camps for children as well as retreats, seminars and conferences for young adults over the past decade.  He devoted his full time energies after September 11, 2001 to empower the Sikh community to become civically engaged in the face of the mounting hate crimes and discrimination.   He holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Wharton School.

Harpreet Singh, Trustee

Currently pursuing graduate studies at Harvard Divinity School, Harpreet left Corporate America following the September 11, 2001 tragedy to focus his energies in working with faith groups to assist the community heal. Harpreet is a graduate of Citigroup’s prestigious Global Management Associate executive development program and previously held various senior management positions in the New York area. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Fellowship of Activists to Embrace Humanity (fatehworld.org), a human development organization committed to fighting poverty and promoting education in South Asia.  Harpreet is one of the founders of United Sikhs in Service of America (unitedsikhs.org), a grassroots organization based in New York empowering disadvantaged New Yorkers through a wide spectrum of social services.  In 1997, he served as a Coordinator for Sikhmediawatch and Resource Task Force (sikhmediawatch.org), a media-watch group based in Washington DC. 

 

Jasmit Singh, Trustee

Jasmit Singh’s experience in grassroots organizing has been invaluable to the Coalition ever since it’s inception. He has worked to organize communities, both Sikh and non-Sikh, to promote pluralism and diversity across the United States.  Jasmit holds various graduate degrees from both India and the US, including a Ph.D. in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.  He was the architect for (and has since mentored the development of) the Coalition’s technological infrastructure and mechanisms to report and process hate-crimes. 

He has been involved in different education initiatives with the Coalition.   Jasmit is linked with various philanthropic projects across the world such as Hate Free Zone of Washington which promotes pluralism; the Wing Luke Asian Museum which promotes and preserves recognition of art and history of Asian Americans; and the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Organization which works on projects related to social welfare. He currently works as a Solutions Architect for Qualcomm Inc. and works with different wireless carriers around the world for design and deployment of 3G technologies.

 

Jasjit Singh, Trustee

A recent immigrant to the United States, Jasjit Singh brings a wide range of perspectives on the Sikh experience from both Punjab and North America.  Since immigrating, he has spent time interacting with local Sikh communities in Canada, Massachusetts, New York,Washington DC, Texas, Minnesota, Oregon, and California.  Jasjit has a distinguished history of involvement in community organizing efforts ranging from involvement in Sikh Missionary College, Fellowship of Activists to Embrace Humanity, and the Sikh Coalition.  Jasjit helps the Coalition create a bridge across various segments of the Community and also has a proven record of utilizing his network of contacts to launch large scale organizing efforts at a national level.

A business consultant by training, Jasjit currently works with Ebay (www.ebay.com) helping the company improve its business processes. Jasjit has an MBA from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar and a Masters in Computer Information Systems from Bentley College in Boston.

Pritpal Singh, Trustee

Pritpal Singh has a long and impressive career in a variety of management and philanthropic pursuits. After investment banking positions at Goldman Sachs and Citicorp, he founded PSK, Inc. He grew the company into a highly successful real estate firm focused on developing, acquiring, and managing real estate properties in New York City.

 

Pritpal is a 30 year veteran of New York City. He has worked with, and supported non-profits such as the Sierra Club, NY Cares, the Bridge Fund and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). He is also a director of the Munshi Bishan Singh Kochhar Foundation, a private foundation focused on education for and about Sikhs. Pritpal holds an MBA from Columbia University’s School of Business, where he also taught as an Adjunct Professor, and is a graduate of IIT, Kharagpur.

Sapreet Kaur, Trustee

Currently Sapreet is the Managing Director of Strategy within the Human Assets team at Teach for America (teachforamerica.org), a national non-profit whose mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort. Sapreet is responsible for facilitating the formulation and evolution of human capital priorities and strategies covering areas such as compensation, staff retention, organizational strength, and employee satisfaction.

She volunteers with the Girl Scouts of the USA (girlscouts.org) and serves as a board member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (wagggsworld.org), a 10 million member worldwide movement across 135 countries providing non-formal education where girls and young women develop leadership and life skills through self-development, challenge and adventure. Sapreet is also a member of the National Organization of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, having served as a business volunteer in Uganda and Kenya from 1998-2001. She previously served on the Board of Directors of Fellowship of Activists to Embrace Humanity (fatehworld.org), a human development organization committed to fighting poverty and promoting education in South Asia . Sapreet is a graduate of the Stern School of Business at New York University with a dual degree in marketing and international business
