Operations Director Job Description


 

The Sikh Coalition is a community-based organization that works towards the realization of civil and human rights for all people.  In particular, we work towards a world where Sikhs may freely practice and enjoy their faith while fostering strong relations with their local community wherever Sikhs may be.    We pursue our mission by:

  • Providing direct legal services to persons whose civil or human rights are violated;
  • Advocating for law and policies that are respectful of fundamental rights;
  • Promoting appreciation for diversity through education; and
  • Fostering civic engagement in order to promote local community empowerment

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Sikh Coalition is looking for an organized, business-oriented individual to manage and scale the fast-paced growth of the Coalition’s operations both in New York and California.

This work includes: managing and growing our intern and local volunteers program; maintaining all city, state, and federal filings; maintaining all financial records; managing relationships with community members, vendors, and Coalition contractors. The Operations Director also should be able to effectively represent the organization at various meetings as needed with other NGOs, government, and the media.

This is a full-time that position reports to the Executive Director.  It is based in the Sikh Coalition’s office in New York City.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage office operations to ensure day-to-day functioning
  • Manage donor relations, mailings, and electronic communications
  • Maintain Coalition Supporter database
  • Manage vendors and process bills, payroll and benefits administration for Coalition employees
  • Manage government filings, accounting and Coalition books
  • Manage and recruit Americorps VISTA, interns and volunteers to provide support for programming needs
  • Oversee production of Coalition marketing materials
  • Ensure office IT / Hardware needs are met and functioning
  • Coordinate with various individuals on contract with the Coalition
  • Represent Coalition at appropriate conferences, meetings, and other occasions as needed

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Punjabi language skills strongly preferred
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with financial reporting, Quickbooks software a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and find appropriate resources or outside expertise to ensure successful completion of tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to design and maintain effective systems, organize resources and establish priorities.
  • Experience working in an office environment. 
  • Experience managing projects and interns a plus
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Photoshop a plus
  • IT skills (basic networking, web development) a plus
