Over 1600 Entrants from 30 Countries Participate in the Second Annual Sikh Coalition Diversity Essay Competition

The Sikh Coalition Diversity Essay Competition helps students, teachers, parents, friends and entire communities engage in a dialogue about issues facing our world. It provides an opportunity to learn about various religions, talk to persons of different backgrounds, understand different perspectives on a topic, and to recognize the common characteristics of all people. Through these types of educational initiatives the Sikh Coalition hopes to promote cultural understanding and build bridges across communities.

We would like to thank all of those that submitted essays and the thousands of people that supported and encouraged them. Because of the large number of essays received, we will delay announcing the winners of the composition until June 30, 2006.

The purpose of this year's essay competition is to examine issues that confront our societies in the post 9/11 world. We invites young people of all backgrounds to share their views on the following topic:

Racial, ethnic or religious profiling makes the world more secure.

Please argue for or against this position. You may interview or contact individuals of different backgrounds who have been profiled and/or law enforcement agencies who may endorse profiling at times to gain information to support your position.

We thank you for your participation and your patience.
