Sikh Coalition 2006 Summer Internships |
Application Requirements |
| The application deadline is April 1, 2006. Each applicant is required to submit a cover letter and current resume to:internship@sikhcoalition.org. |

Commitment |
| A commitment of 4 days or 30 hours a week for a minimum of eight weeks at our New York City office is required. We are happy to discuss the possibility of split summers for legal interns. |

Stipend |
| Accepted legal interns who complete their commitment will receive a $1000 stipend. Other accepted interns who complete their commitment will receive a $500 stipend. Special circumstances will be considered. |

Academic Credit |
| In the past, university students received academic credit for working with the Coalition. We will make every effort to ensure you receive credit for your work. |

For me, the greatest reward was being able to see the tangible results of my work—the real impact on people's lives. Working at the Sikh Coalition is the perfect alignment of interests; doing what you love for a community of which you are a part.

 The Sikh Coalition Internship Program allows students to gain hands-on experience promoting civil and human rights for all people.
Applicants can choose to concentrate in one of the following three areas: Legal, Community Organizing, and Marketing and Operations. Our Internship Program focuses on giving all interns the opportunity to be involved in project that they can learn from and enjoy.
Last summer, Sikh Coalition interns:
- Conducted an advocacy campaign to persuade the New York City Legislature to pass a bill outlawing religious headdress discrimination in city agencies
- Drafted legal briefs and memoranda in support of litigation against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
- Organized a press conference to announce a civil suit by a Sikh hate crime victim against his attackers
- Enjoyed a night of rock climbing during our summer intern activity night at Chelsea Piers
Internships are competitive. Decisions are made on a rolling basis.
