Sikh Coalition Summer Internships 2007

My most fufilling task was surveying the Sikh community in New York City. We visited various gurdwaras and community events at which we requested Sikhs to fill out Civil Rights surveys that we will use to better serve our community and address problems more accurately.

(New York, New York) February 21, 2007 - The Sikh Coalition Internship Program allows students to gain hands-on experience promoting civil and human rights for all people

Undergraduate applicants can choose to concentrate in one of the following three areas: Community Organizing, Marketing and Operations. Law students may apply to be Legal Interns for the summer.

Our Internship Program focuses on giving all interns the opportunity to be involved in project that they can learn from and enjoy.

Last summer, Sikh Coalition interns:

  • Conducted legal research and writing on civil rights concerns
  • Launched a civic engagement intiative that led to the election of the first 5 Sikhs ever to hold elected office in New York City
  • Conceptalized, Drafted, and Finalized a Civil Rights Survey on the needs of the Sikh community
  • Conducted advocacy within the New York City Council
  • Drafted and devised marketing materials for a Sikh Coalition fundraiser

Only current law students are eligible to apply to be legal interns.

Interships are highly competitive. Please apply early. The application deadline for law student internships is March 1, 2007. The application deadline for all other internships is April 1, 2007.
