| Battling Hate: It's Up to Us |
|
"Send the SOB back to where he came from, and he can join the military that has a army full of towel heads." With every step forward in the fight for Sikh civil rights, new hatred surfaces in the hearts of some. As Sikhs become more assertive in demanding the freedom of religion that America promises, we face renewed bias. These comments prove that even in 2009, we have a long road ahead of us. Can you help sustain the Sikh Coalition's efforts to stamp out this hate? Consider donating $31, $101, $501 or $1000 today. Thanks to those of you who have given to the Coalition! "If I'm a cop and find a knife up someones dress tail - you better believe that I am going to taser and the adrenaline is going to start pumping until I get a supervisor there. Are they here legally or not?" "Next thing you know, Native American Indians will be demanding that they be allowed to wear their headdress and put on war paint before going into battle. Wouldn't that turn the battlefield into a circus?" These comments are not just painful, but can often lead to very real and often violent actions against our Sikh children and community at large. "Here we go again this is AMERICA you came to us we did not come to you." How much longer will we endure these vile taunts and threats? We have the right to practice our faith as the Gurus intended. In a country like the United States of America, we should not be afraid of claiming those rights, even in the face of hate. As always, the Coalition continues encourages all Sikhs to fearlessly practice their faith and stand up for their rights. Donate now. |
