The Coalition's summer internship program allows students to further the mission and vision of the Sikh Coalition by helping to achieve legal victories, as well as educating and empowering the Sikh community.  Our interns have the opportunity to gain hands on experience with a non-profit organization and will be participating in groundbreaking work for the Sikh community. Undergraduate and graduate students that apply should be hard-working, enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexible, and dedicated to protecting and advocating for the civil and human rights of all individuals.

Time Commitment
During the summer, we require a commitment of 5 days or 40 hours a week for a minimum of ten weeks at the Sikh Coalition's New York City office.

ADVOCACY (New York City) - Advocacy interns assist with community engagement, social justice and policy work.

OPERATIONS & TECHNOLOGY
(New York City) - Business and communications oriented students can apply to intern with the Coalition's Operations Manager.

EDUCATION (New York City) - If you are interested in educating the greater community on who Sikhs are and creating a positive image for Sikhs in society, this internship might be right for you.

Summer Stipend
Advocacy summer interns who complete their commitment with the Sikh Coalition will receive a $500 - $1000 stipend, depending on experience.  All other summer interns who complete their commitment will receive a $500 stipend.

How to apply
Interns are selected through a competitive process. Each applicant is required to submit the following to internship@sikhcoalition.org:

1. A cover letter stating for which internship you are applying and the reasons you would like to intern at the Sikh Coalition and;
2. A current resume

The application deadline is April 1, 2010.  Summer internships are highly competitive.  Please apply early.

Class Credit and/or Work Study
In the past, some interns have been able receive class credit for their work at the Coalition.  We will be happy to coordinate with your school in providing the necessary documents for these requirements.
