Dear Friend:
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
The U.S. Congress is about to consider landmark legislation that aims to eliminate most forms of employment discrimination against Sikhs and other people of faith. The proposed law is called the Workplace Religious Freedom Act (WRFA).
Congressman Tom McClintock sits on an influential committee that could decide whether WRFA moves forward in the U.S. Congress. Gaining his support is critical. If you value religious freedom and want to protect the Sikh identity from discrimination in the workplace, please tell Congressman McClintock to co-sponsor WRFA:
STEP 1 - WRITE
Ask members of the local sangat to write and sign letters to Congressman McClintock, urging him to co-sponsor the Workplace Religious Freedom Act (WRFA). Click here to download a sample petition letter.
STEP 2 - CALL
Ask members of the local sangat to call the office of Congressman McClintock at (916) 786-5560. Tell his staff that Sikhs continue to face religious discrimination in the workplace, and that it is important for him to support the Sikh community by co-sponsoring the Workplace Religious Freedom Act (WRFA).
STEP 3 - VISIT
Ask members of the local sangat to visit the local office of Congressman McClintock at 4230 Douglas Blvd., Suite 200, Granite Bay, California 95746. If you would like assistance on coordinating the visit, please contact Rajdeep Singh, the Sikh Coalition's Director of Law and Policy, at (202) 747-4944 or via email at rajdeep@sikhcoalition.org.
This is an important opportunity for the Sikh voice to be heard. Please share this advisory with your family and friends at your local Gurdwara. There is strength in numbers.
Chardi Kala,
Rajdeep Singh |
