Hate Crimes

The Sikh Coalition assists Sikhs who have been beaten or assaulted because of their Sikh religious beliefs or Sikh identity, and works to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted under applicable state and/or federal hate crime laws

Representative cases include:

West Texas Student

West Texas (December 2009) - A Sikh student was thrown into a swimming pool and brutally assaulted in West Texas. The Coalition is taking action to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice, and a federal hate crime investigation is pending. Read more..

Sukhvir Singh

Renton, WA (November 30, 2007) - In a moving show of support, more than 300 Seattle community members gathered at Renton Gurdwara for a candlelight vigil on Wednesday. The gathered crowd prayed for Sukhvir Singh's health and his family's strength at this difficult time. Just a few hours before the vigil began, official hate crime charges had been brought against Sukhvir Singh's attacker, 20-year old Luis Vazquez. Read more..
