Operations Manager

The Sikh Coalition is a community-based organization that defends civil rights in the United States, educates the broader community about Sikhs,, promotes local community empowerment, and fosters civic engagement amongst Sikh Americans. The Coalition serves as a resource for all organizations and individuals as well as a point of contact for the Sikh people.

Formed immediately after 9/11 in order to combat bias and backlash, the Coalition has grown into a permanent institution with a track record of success. Scores of legal victories, significant government relationships and strong educational programming have impacted the communities in which we operate.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Sikh Coalition is looking for a self starter who will have a diverse skill set and manage the fast-paced growth of the Coalition’s operations. The ideal candidate will be able to ensure stability for all Coalition operations, manage volunteers, and maintain financial records. The Operations Manager will be passionate about the Coalition’s mission, have the ability to work with a wide range of people inside of affected communities, and effectively represent the organization at various meetings as needed with NGOs, government, business and the media. This position reports to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage or direct office operations to ensure day-to-day functioning
  • Manage donor relations, mailings, and electronic communications
  • Maintain Coalition donor & contact database
  • Manage maintenance and updates to Coalition collateral and website
  • Manage vendors, bills, and benefits administration for Coalition employees
  • Manage government filings, accounting and Coalition books
  • Manage volunteers and interns to provide support for programming needs
  • Ensure office IT / Hardware needs are met and functioning
  • Represent Coalition at appropriate conferences, meetings, and other occasions as needed

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, web) required
  • IT skills (basic networking, web development) a plus
  • Punjabi language skills strongly preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and find appropriate resources or outside expertise to ensure successful completion of tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to design and maintain effective systems, organize resources and establish priorities. Experience with financial reporting a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comprehensive analytical, strategic thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to plan and implement in a fast paced environment

This is a full-time exempt position located in New York City. Salary Range: $30,000-$35,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes medical and vacation.
