Volunteer

The Sikh Coalition acknowledges Seva as the prized Sikh ideal of selfless activism, an integral part of the Sikh way of life. The Coalition also recognizes the level of commitment from each volunteer will be different.

We encourage everyone from high school and college students to the elderly to working professionals to get involved.  You can choose to come in and volunteer in the Sikh Coalition office located in New York City, or volunteer remotely.  With this spirit, we encourage volunteers to choose their seva in the following areas.

Volunteering remotely:

• Legal - Provide litigation assistance, legal research aid, legal advice or act as an expert witness
• Incidents and Hate Crimes database - Verify incident reports listed on our database online
• Content Development - Develop professional content on Sikh issues for publication on site and in media sources
• Government database - Expand and develop database to track information on congressmen, senators and state departments using MS Excel
• Database work - Web enable existing and future databases using MS Access or mySQL

• Providing graphic design assistance with Coalition marketing and/or special project materials
• Helping us ensure Sikhs are accurately portrayed in the media and/or responding to media complaints

Volunteering in the office:

• Assisting with special projects – i.e. Library Project, Sikh Civil Rights Survey, etc.
• Sikh Civil Rights Database – inputting data from the Coalition Sikh Civil Rights Survey
• Media database - Expand and develop mailing lists and contacts using MS Access
• Development -work with Executive Director to develop fundraising opportunities
• Responding to Educational material requests
• Producing and editing Coalition video segments (experience with Final Cut Pro required)
• Tracking donations and writing acknowledgements to donors
• SSA Reliations - updating SSA contacts, developing content for SSAs
• Making edits to design/content of Sikh Coalition website (experience with Adobe Contribute required)
• General administrative assistance
