November 20, 2017 (Washington, D.C.) – The Sikh Coalition urges Sikh travelers to know their rights during the Thanksgiving holiday season, one of the busiest travel times of the year.
Before you fly, we urge you to review our Sikh Air Traveler’s Guide and Bill of Rights document, which contains detailed information on airport screening procedures and your rights as a traveler.
If you believe the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has committed an act of discrimination, please file a complaint directly from your smartphone by downloading and using our FlyRights phone app (www.fly-rights.org). Hundreds of travelers have downloaded FlyRights and filed over 700 complaints against the TSA. Your reports of discrimination through FlyRights are a critical tool for holding the TSA accountable.
Please note that the risk of experiencing secondary screening decreases with enrollment in the TSA Pre✓® program.
As a reminder, the Sikh Coalition provides free legal assistance to Sikhs who have experienced discrimination or violence because of their Sikh identity. If you are threatened with violence or experience violence, please dial 911 immediately, and fill out our legal intake form to request legal assistance. You can also contact the Sikh Coalition at 212-655-3095 or email email@example.com.
Additionally, please consider requesting copies of our “The Sikhs” educational brochures. This free resource is available in 18 different languages. To get copies, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
