Dear supporter,

As a Sikh woman, my faith teaches me to fight against injustice and to promote the well-being of all people. This past summer, I was able to pursue just that through my role as a Legal Assistant at the Supreme Court of New Jersey’s Division of Criminal Justice.

The Sikh Coalition made that possible. They invested in my professional development through not one, but two community empowerment programs that have played a critical role in who I am today.

When I was a freshman in college, I joined the Junior Sikh Coalition program because I wanted to develop as a Kaur and gain confidence in my ability to become a leader who promotes social justice and interfaith solidarity. During the program, I participated in critical skills trainings, interfaith debates, community outreach events and leadership workshops. Also, because I was a part of this Sikh Coalition program, I was on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show! Their groundbreaking Sikh-focused segment, which educated millions of Americans, provided me a platform to share my experiences as a dastaar-wearing Sikh woman living in America.

Four years later, as I sought to strengthen my social justice advocacy skills, I once again looked to the Sikh Coalition and their advanced advocacy training program. As part of the 2018 Sikh Advocate Academy class, I further developed grassroots leadership skills that have reinforced my foundation for transforming the world into a better place for all.

Regardless of where my professional career takes me, I am determined to maintain a commitment to serving the Sikh community. While I work towards personally achieving this goal, the Sikh Coalition has proven to be a foundation for the next generation of leaders.
