December 4, 2019 (New York, NY) — Following a final open house event this weekend in San Antonio, TX, the Sikh Coalition will have supported more than 30 sangats from coast to coast as they held events in celebration of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji’s 550th gurpurab.

From New Jersey to Washington state and Florida to Michigan, sangats across the country hosted open houses, organized larger community events, and dedicated service projects to this far-reaching effort. Local media turned out to cover events in Santa Ana, CA; Lexington, KY; Irving, TX; Norwalk, CT; Oklahoma City, OK; Bloomington, MN; and Fort Wayne, IN. We’re expecting even more positive stories to come from reporters in Enola, PA; Charlotte, NC; Rensselaer, NY; and San Antonio, TX.

“Our open house event was a major success: We welcomed state representatives, a local police chief, interfaith leaders, and both newspaper and TV reporters,” said Gurcharan Singh of the Sikh Gurdwara of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, OK. “Thanks to the Sikh Coalition’s logistical support, we were able to raise Sikh awareness among our community, and we’re excited to build on that progress with more action.”

The Sikh Coalition is excited to continue strengthening our relationships with these and other sangats in the coming year as we work to help all Sikh Americans build bridges within their local communities. Efforts to increase the kind of positive Sikh awareness that will make for a safer, happier future for our children start at the local level. Even more importantly, this work is only possible with the support of volunteers like you!

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
