April 12, 2020 (New York, NY) – As Sikhs celebrate Vaisakhi this week, we are excited to host an extra-special session of Kid’s Corner with author and Senior Fellow Simran Jeet Singh and illustrator Baljinder Kaur (also known as @blahjinder)–who will be joining from the United Kingdom.

Since launching the Sikh Coalition Kid’s Corner almost three weeks ago, the virtual learning series has engaged more than 15,000 kids, parents, and teachers!

This Wednesday, experience the real-life story of the world’s oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh, as told in the upcoming children’s book Fauja Singh Keeps Going. Expected to release in August 2020, it is the first-ever children’s book from a major publisher (Penguin Random House) to center a Sikh story. Simran Jeet and Baljinder will share a sneak peek of the book and then lead a complimentary art workshop on the Sikh Coalition’s Facebook Live this Wednesday, April 15 at 2:00 PM EDT / 11:00 AM PDT / 7:00 PM GMT.

“Fauja Singh Ji’s remarkable life challenges so many stereotypes we all hold, whether it’s about disability, age, or appearance,” said author and Senior Fellow Simran Jeet Singh. “By sharing his story with our kids, I hope they will learn to see the humanity in everyone they meet, no matter how different they might be from us.”

The session is open to kids of all ages, and we encourage their classmates, parents, and teachers to join in. If you are a parent, take action by sharing this virtual learning opportunity with your child’s teacher with this easy-to-use email language. If you would like a reminder for the session, enter your information here and we will make sure to send you a text message a few minutes before the session begins with a link!
