November 9, 2023 (Yuba City, CA) — This past weekend, the Sikh Coalition was honored to join thousands of sangat members at the 44th annual Yuba City Nagar Kirtan Yuba City, California.

Eight Sikh Coalition colleagues joined the festivities for the first time since 2019. In addition to providing arts and crafts activities as well as readings for children at our tent, we distributed thousands of copies of our resources in both English and Punjabi—including information about hate crimes, bullying, know-your-rights information, and more. It was our pleasure to connect with sangat members from across the country, from school-aged children to elders.

This year’s Yuba City Nagar Kirtan brought together more than 200,000 Sikhs from across the country and around the world. We are grateful to the Sikh Temple of Yuba City for holding this incredible gathering and for the gurdwara committee for welcoming us to be part of the festivities. Check out our Instagram page for extensive content from the weekend; for media coverage, watch our team’s interview with CBS Sacramento and JUS Punjabi, as well as an interview of the gurdwara president that we facilitated with  KCRA 3.

Connecting with sangat remains essential to the Sikh Coalition’s work. Our trip to Yuba City comes on the heels of advocacy and community empowerment-focused engagements in North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, New York, Connecticut, and Michigan this year. We look forward to more of this work in 2024, including a return trip to the 45th Yuba City Nagar Kirtan!

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
