Dear Supporter Ji,

My name is Upneet Kaur, and I serve as the Education Manager at the Sikh Coalition. I joined our staff in a full-time capacity earlier this year after serving as a Fellow, and I am so excited to be a part of the work we are able to do—and the victories we are able to achieve—because of your continued support.

This year, I was one of eight Sikh Coalition colleagues who had the opportunity to attend the annual Yuba City Nagar Kirtan in Yuba City, California. We not only provided arts and crafts activities as well as readings for children at our tent, but also distributed thousands of copies of our resources in both English and Punjabi—including information about hate crimes, bullying, know-your-rights information, and more.

This year’s Yuba City Nagar Kirtan brought together more than 200,000 Sikhs from across the country and around the world. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with sangat members from across the country, from school-aged children to elders. This kind of direct engagement with sangat remains essential to our work here at the Sikh Coalition: In fact, our trip to Yuba City was just one of many this year, among visits to North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, New York, Connecticut, and Michigan. I myself had the pleasure of speaking at a gurdwara and on a panel in Washington, DC, after we won our state standards victory there in June.

The conversations I had in Yuba City and elsewhere were a great reminder to me that our impact is most profound when we take the time to meet our sangat where they are and listen to what resources and support they need. Our team remains committed to maintaining and deepening relationships across the country, and that includes our plans to return to the 45th Yuba City Nagar Kirtan next year! The simple truth, however, is that this can only be accomplished through donations from supporters like you.

The Sikh Coalition is committed to fighting for our sangats, whether that be by winning legal cases, passing legislation, creating better resources for schools, or providing help wherever it is needed. The first step to all that, however, is simply ‘showing up’ in our community and visiting gurdwaras from coast to coast. With your continued investment, we can keep pursuiing our work in this way—so that we are always working alongside and through the sangat to achieve success.

Chardi Kala,

Upneet Kaur
