February 2, 2026 (Nationwide) — Today, the Sikh Coalition is excited to share our latest flagship policy document: Sikh Coalition State Policy Priorities.
For the past several years, the Sikh Coalition has published updated editions of Sikh American Policy Priorities, which outlines our views on civil rights issues at the federal level. However, for nearly 25 years, our organization has also seen success working with sangat members in state capitols across the country to make meaningful progress on many of these policy issues at the state level. This year, for the first time, we are publishing Sikh Coalition State Policy Priorities to share our vision for how Sikh legislators and citizen-advocates can push for progress closer to home.
Sikh Coalition State Policy Priorities includes sections on policies related to hate and hate violence, inclusive education and anti-bullying efforts, workplace discrimination, immigration, and transnational repression. Each section provides guidance on the types of policies the Sikh Coalition generally supports and opposes, including examples of specific legislation from states across the country to illustrate how these ideas can become bills and, ultimately, laws. The final section of the document includes guidance on resolutions and proclamations, which are often an important first step towards mobilizing Sikh civic engagement among sangats.
“The Sikh Coalition’s advocacy team is grateful for the chance to work with Sikhs in sangats across the country on state-level policy, from testimony on transnational repression bills to office visits on inclusive education measures,” said Gurvir Singh Sidhu, Sikh Coalition State Policy Manager. “It is our hope that this document will make civil rights issues even more accessible to Sikhs who want to see change in their states, and that we can continue to serve as partners and amplifiers for those who are excited to get involved.”
The launch of Sikh Coalition State Policy Priorities comes on the heels of the recent launch of applications for Takht: The Sikh Political Leadership Training Program. Whether through running for office, advocacy on specific bills and issues, or even simply preparing to vote in the upcoming 2026 elections, there are more opportunities—and more tools—than ever before to increase Sikh civic engagement.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
