July 28, 2026 (Nationwide) – As students prepare to return to their classrooms, we want to ensure that families have the tools they need to advocate for safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments.
According to the Sikh Coalition’s 2024 school climate report, Where Are You Really From?, 78 percent of Sikh students have experienced bullying behavior in school because of their Sikh identity. While these findings are highly concerning, proactive conversations with school staff and strong accommodation practices can help students feel supported and empowered to be themselves.
To assist families and educators, the Sikh Coalition has compiled resources related to Sikh articles of faith to help with accommodation needs. These materials can be useful when working with teachers, administrators, counselors, and sports coaches to ensure Sikh students can fully participate in school while maintaining their Sikh identity. We encourage you to make yourself familiar with these resources below and share them widely within your sangat.
- Access all of our accommodation resources here.
- A general one-pager on school uniform policies and accommodations is here.
- Our updated Back-to-School toolkit can be accessed here.
- Read our step-by-step guide on addressing bullying in either English or Punjabi.
Together, we can create school environments where Sikh students are accommodated, valued, and celebrated. Know a parent, educator, or school administrator who may find this information helpful? Please consider forwarding this email to them. If you have any questions or concerns, please email our team at education@sikhcoalition.org.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
