September 10, 2026 (Washington, DC) — Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted a bizarre and hostile video and fake movie poster on Twitter announcing a phone line to “report illegal aliens on American roads.” The video featured immigrant drivers involved in recent tragic accidents, and the poster depicted a Sikh man and featured the words “get off the roads, you don’t know how to drive Mr. Singh.” The fake poster has since been deleted, but this was the image:

In response to this ugly attempt to increase the public’s fear and suspicion of Sikh truck drivers, the Sikh Coalition is urging you to take action today.

To be clear, the Trump Administration has been engaged in a hostile campaign of policy and rhetoric targeting immigrant truck drivers for months. The Administration has eagerly uplifted any accident involving a truck driver they claim is an illegal immigrant—including by sharing falsehoods—despite the fact that there is no data showing that immigrant drivers cause a disproportionate number of such accidents (and there is even data showing that immigrant drivers are involved in fewer crashes in California). They have also implemented rules and pushed legislation to force lawfully present drivers out of the trucking industry regardless of their safety record.

Now, almost 25 years to the day since Sikh suffered a surge of hate and discrimination in the aftermath of 9/11, the administration is going even further. A phone line where anyone can call and accuse a driver of committing “CDL fraud” and/or being an “illegal immigrant” with no evidence is flagrant profiling. To oppose this new program, and fight these ugly attacks on Sikh truckers, use this advocacy tool to ask your elected officials in Congress to speak out against DHS. Once you’ve taken action, share the tool with friends and family anywhere in the country regardless of whether or not they are Sikh; in the days ahead, we look forward to sharing more information about how we are mobilizing our allies across different communities to oppose DHS’s actions.

We respectfully urge all members of our sangat, regardless of your political affiliation or prior opinion of the Trump Administration, to take action on this campaign. The bottom line is that this kind of profiling can only lead to more fear and more hate in our society—including fear of and hate towards Sikhs. Standing up against language like “get off the roads, you don’t know how to drive Mr. Singh” coming from an official government agency must be a nonpartisan goal that we can all agree upon.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
