August 20, 2026 (Houston, TX) – On August 15, the Sikh Coalition partnered with Interfaith America to host a special weekend of events, including roundtable discussions and a public panel titled “The Spirit of Seva: Sikh Reflections on the Common Good at America’s 250th,” in Houston, Texas.

This collaboration brought together nearly 20 Sikh leaders from across the country to examine the Sikh community’s unique past and future roles in building bridges across differences, upholding religious liberty, and protecting democracy. The public conversation was moderated by Sikh Coalition Executive Director Harman Singh and was attended by nearly 50 community members across the civic, interfaith, and business sectors. It featured three panelists:

  • Harpreet Singh Mokha, Private Attorney and Former National Program Manager, U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service
  • Harsimran Kaur, Executive Director, United Sikh Movement
  • Jasmit Singh, Co-Founder, Sikh Coalition

“This weekend was truly special, and hearing all of the speakers has made me feel hopeful for the future of our Panth and has motivated me to act with the same intentions in my own work,” said Aekem Singh of Boston, Massachusetts. “I am grateful to the Sikh Coalition and Interfaith America for providing us this space, and I look forward with excitement to future collaborations sparked from our conversations.”

In addition to our work with Interfaith America, the Sikh Coalition also held a Know Your Rights discussion with local Sikh truck drivers. Many of the resources available to support Sikh truckers can be found on our website here. Our staff also visited two gurdwaras in Houston – Sikh National Center and The Sikh Center of the Gulf Coast Area – to discuss pressing community concerns, including policies impacting truckers and transnational repression.

We extend our gratitude to Interfaith America for creating a meaningful opportunity to gather in Houston, and to every sangat member and community leader who joined us from Washington, New York, Ohio, New Jersey, Maryland, California, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, and Michigan. Additionally, we are also grateful to Sikh National Center for hosting us throughout the weekend.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
