Holding Perpetrators and Policymakers Accountable

All people deserve to live in a world without hate and discrimination. The Sikh Coalition is committed to fighting hate crime and profiling. Our goal is to create a social climate in which Sikh Americans can live with dignity without being targeted for violence or discrimination.

The Sikh Coalition's direct legal work effectively combats bias-motivated violence across the country. We also engage with elected officials and agencies at the local, state, and federal levels to craft better policies against hate and discrimination, from efforts to better prevent or track bias-motivated crimes to ending TSA profiling. When Sikh Americans are targeted because of their appearance, we will not allow policymakers or perpetrators to plead ignorance and evade accountability.

"We can't bring back our loved ones, like my mother, whom we have lost to hate. But we can demand laws to better protect us."

Harpreet Singh Saini in The New York Times

No Community Should Ever Be the Target of Bigotry

Violent crimes damage the lives of survivors, their families, and the communities in which they live. Hate crimes, in particular, can have deep, lasting effects on survivors and targeted communities. In order to develop effective policy solutions to combat hate crimes, policymakers must first understand the scope of the problem. Thus, when Sikhs are targeted because of hate, it is imperative that law enforcement authorities document these attacks as hate crimes and prosecutors pursue hate crime charges.
