Satjeet Kaur is the former Executive Director of the organization. She served as the head of the largest Sikh civil rights organization in the United States from 2018 to 2022.

Prior to becoming Executive Director, Satjeet spent eight years working for the Sikh Coalition in nearly every core facet of the organization’s work. In her early years, she managed operations, supported Sikh state standards and education projects, developed Sikh awareness resources, and launched the Sikh Coalition’s social media platforms. Before her promotion, as the Senior Director of Development and Finance, she refined organizational branding, incorporated game-changing technology, and installed new processes that resulted in the Sikh Coalition receiving recognition as one of the top nonprofits for transparency and governance. At the time, her fundraising leadership resulted in doubling the amount of resources supporting the Sikh community.

Through her career, Satjeet has also established herself as a leading community organizer. Starting in 2010, she began providing direct support to local Sikh communities in response to hate crimes and helped manage the multi-month national response to the Oak Creek tragedy in 2012. Satjeet was also responsible for helping to launch the Sikh Project along with major community fundraisers in the Bay Area, Southern California and New York City and was a leading architect behind the Sikh Coalition’s top finishes on #GivingTuesday for multiple consecutive years.

Fluent in Punjabi, Satjeet was born and raised in New Jersey and is a graduate of New York University with degrees in Religious Studies and Psychology. She previously served as a member of the Asian American Impact Fund; she is also a New York Community Trust Leadership Fellow and a board member for Lahir, a project to encourage a revival in Sikh community activism through the arts. In 2020, she was named as one of 15 Faith Leaders to Watch by the Center for American Progress.

Prior to joining the Sikh Coalition, Satjeet was a marketing, communications and donor recruitment specialist for SAMAR – a South Asian focused marrow donor recruitment organization. When not working, she enjoys spending time with family and traveling.
